The Gospel of john
(Lesson 26)

Introduction:

         1. The Gospel of John is a valuable source for information that will help us to grow in the knowledge
             of Christ (2 Peter 3:18).
         2. In this lesson we are studying the information presented in John 12:1-22.

Discussion:

I.           (John 12:1-8) MARY  ANOINTED  THE  LORD'S  BODY

         A. We learn from John 11:2 that Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus, performed this act of service.
         B. Mary's actions, with additional details, are also recorded in:
             1. Matthew 26:6-13
             2. Mark 14:3-9.
         C. Notice how all the Gospels together provide a complete image of what took place.

II.          (John 12:9-11) REACTIONS  TO  LAZARUS  VARIED

         A. (vs.9) Many Jews came to Bethany to see Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the grave, in addition to the
             Lord.
         B. (vs.10-11) The chief priests wanted to kill Lazarus because of the impact he was having on people
             becoming followers of the Lord.

III.         (John 12:12-19) JESUS  ENTERED  JERUSALEM  AS  KING

         A. The Lord's entry to Jerusalem fulfilled the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9.
         B. This great event is also recorded in:
             1. Matthew 21:1-11
             2. Mark 11:1-10
             3. Luke 19:28-38.
         C. Notice again how all the Gospels together provide a complete image of what took place.

IV.         (John 12:20-22) CERTAIN  GREEKS  WANTED  TO  SEE  JESUS

         A. They had gone to Jerusalem for Passover.
         B. They approached Philip who told Andrew, and they both informed Jesus.
         C. Their desire to see the Lord illustrates how He was receiving a great amount of attention after raising
             Lazarus.
