6 additional Subjects described as glorious (ephesians 5:25-27)
Introduction:
1. This morning we studied passages that teach us about "the glorious church" mentioned in vs.27. 2. This evening we are turning our attention to "6 additional subjects described as glorious." 3. When something is described as glorious, we understand that it is very special.
Discussion:
I. FIRST, IN LUKE 13:17 THE LORD'S WORKS ARE DESCRIBED AS GLORIOUS
A. We learn from vs.11-13 that Jesus healed a woman of a serious infirmity. B. The ruler of the synagogue was critical, and Jesus answered him (vs.14-16). C. While the Lord's adversaries were ashamed, "all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him."
II. SECOND, IN ROMANS 8:18-23 THE LIBERTY AVAILABLE TO GOD'S CHILDREN IS DESCRIBED AS GLORIOUS
A. Sometimes, "liberty" refers to freedom from sin. B. However, "liberty" in these verses is freedom from the difficulties we face. C. This glorious liberty will be experienced at the resurrection.
III. THIRD, IN 2 CORINTHIANS 4:3-4 THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST IS DESCRIBED AS GLORIOUS
A. The primary facts of the Gospel are revealed in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. B. We learn from Romans 1:16-17 that the Gospel of Christ is "the power of God unto salvation." C. The Gospel of Christ certainly is glorious (1 Timothy 1:11).
IV. FOURTH, IN PHILIPPIANS 3:20-21 THE RESURRECTED BODY WILL BE FASHIONED LIKE UNTO THE LORD'S GLORIOUS BODY
A. We learn from 1 Corinthians 15 that the resurrected body will be an incorruptible spiritual body that pleases God. B. Having a body compared to the Lord's glorious body gives us hope.
V. FIFTH, IN COLOSSIANS 1:9-12 GOD'S POWER IS DESCRIBED AS GLORIOUS
A. Moses declared God's glorious power after He delivered His people from the Egyptians at the Red Sea (Exodus 15:1, 6). B. God's glorious power provides true strength.
VI. SIXTH, IN TITUS 2:11-14 THE LORD'S APPEARING IS DESCRIBED AS GLORIOUS
A. In Matthew 25:31 Jesus said that He will return "in His glory" with all the holy angels. B. A blessing is in store for those who love the Lord's appearing (2 Timothy 4:8).
Conclusion:
1. In Philippians 4:8 we are given a list of good things to think about. 2. Let us also think about these special things we have studied that are described as "glorious."
