let us examine 4 of god's characteristics
(psalm 145:8)

Introduction:

         1. David began this Psalm by stating how he would bless God's name forever (vs.1-2).
         2. Throughout this Psalm David showed why God deserves such praise.
             a. (vs.3) God deserves to be praised because His "greatness is unsearchable."
             b. God deserves to be praised because of His characteristics listed in vs.8: He is "gracious," He is "full of
compassion," He is "slow to anger," and He is "of great mercy."
             c. God also deserves to be praised because of how He demonstrates His characteristics in what He does
                 for His people (vs.14, 18-19).
         3. While David gave other reasons for praising God that deserve our attention, "let us examine 4 of God's
             characteristics."
         4. The first point we need to make is that . . .

Discussion:

I.           THESE  CHARACTERISTICS  OF  GOD  ARE  MENTIONED  MANY  TIMES  IN  THE  PSALMS

         A. See Psalm 86:15; 103:8; 111:4; 116:5.
         B. The Scriptures also illustrate how God possesses these qualities.

II.          GOD  DEMONSTRATED  THESE  CHARACTERISTICS  IN  HIS  RESPONSE  TO  SOLOMON'S  PRAYER
             (2  CHRONICLES)

         A. (2 Chronicles 5:1) Solomon completed the temple.
         B. At the dedication of the temple Solomon prayed (2 Chronicles 6).
             1. He began by praising God for keeping His word (vs.12-17).
             2. He asked God to hear his prayer and the prayers of His people (vs.18-21).
             3. He asked God to forgive His people in the future when they sinned against Him (vs.22-39).
         C. God responded to Solomon's prayer (2 Chronicles 7).
             1. (vs.12-16) God answered Solomon's request for his people.
                 a. Because of their sins, God might punish them in various ways.
                 b. However, if the people returned to Him, God would forgive them and heal their land.
                 c. He would demonstrate His great characteristics of being gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger,
                     and of great mercy.
             2. (vs.17-22) God called upon Solomon to serve Him faithfully.

Conclusion:

         1. God still possesses the characteristics that David listed in Psalm 145:8.
         2. He will forgive and bless His people who:
             a. humble themselves (James 4:10)
             b. pray (James 5:16)
             c. seek His face (1 Peter 3:12)
             d. turn from their wicked ways (1 Peter 3:10-11).
