The Lord's Work Ethic
(Mark 7:31-37)

Introduction:

         1. On this occasion the people that observed how Jesus healed a man who was deaf and dumb responded
in vs.37 by saying, "He hath done all things well."
         2. This statement says much about "the Lord's work ethic."
         3. As Jesus fulfilled His mission He practiced the instruction given in Ecclesiastes 9:10 -- "Whatsoever thy
hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."
         4. In our lesson we want to make 2 points concerning the Lord's work ethic.
             a. First, Jesus did all things well during His ministry.
             b. Second, Jesus continues to do all things well today.

Discussion:

I.           JESUS  DID  ALL  THINGS  WELL  DURING  HIS  MINISTRY

         A. According to the Scriptures, the Lord's work involved 2 main activities identified in Matthew 4:23.
             1. One activity was teaching and preaching.
             2. The other activity was healing.
         B. Jesus did all things well as He taught and preached.
             1. Consider the response of those who heard His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:28-29).
             2. Also, consider the response of the officers who were sent to take Him into custody (John 7:32, 45-46).
         C. Jesus did all things well as He healed people.
             1. (Matthew 14:34-36) Those who touched His garment "were made perfectly whole."
             2. He healed a woman who could not be cured by doctors (Luke 8:43-44).
         D. Jesus knew that His time to accomplish His mission was limited (John 9:4), so He worked diligently and
             did all things well.

II.          JESUS  CONTINUES  TO  DO  ALL  THINGS  WELL  TODAY

         A. Jesus intercedes on behalf of His followers (Romans 8:34).
             1. "Intercede:" to plead or make a petition on behalf of someone else.
             2. We pray to the Father through Christ (John 16:23b).
             3. As we pray, Christ intercedes in that He pleads on our behalf.
         B. Jesus is our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5-6).
             1. "Mediator:" a go-between, one who reconciles, one who intervenes between two parties to make peace.
             2. Christ, who gave Himself for us, serves as our mediator with the Father.
         C. Jesus is our advocate (1 John 2:1-2).
             1. "Advocate:" one who pleads another's case before a judge.
             2. John explained the Lord's role as our advocate.
                 a. John wrote certain things to help us avoid sin (vs.1a).
                 b. However, we do sin (1:8).
                 c. When we sin we have a special advocate with the Father.
                     1) He is called "the righteous."
                     2) He is "the propitiation for our sins."
         D. Jesus is our High Priest (Hebrews 3:1).
             1. He is a perfect High Priest (Hebrews 7:26).
             2. He is merciful, faithful, and compassionate (Hebrews 2:17-18; 4:14-16).

Conclusion:

         1. We have examined a number of passages that teach us about "the Lord's work ethic."
         2. As the people in Mark 7:37 said, Jesus "hath done all things well."
         3. We have also seen from the Scriptures that "Jesus continues to do all things well today."
         4. Have you become His follower? (Matthew 11:28-30)
