additional responsibilities of those raised with christ
(ephesians 4:17-24)

Introduction:

         1. This morning we examined a number of responsibilities revealed in Colossians 3 that are given to those
who have been raised with Christ.
         2. This evening we are examining additional responsibilities revealed in Ephesians 4.
             a. We learn from Ephesians 4:23 that those raised with Christ are to "be renewed."
             b. This renewal involves:
                 1) putting off the old man (vs.22)
                 2) putting on the new man (vs.24).
         3. The first point we need to make is that . . .

Discussion:

I.           RENEWAL  BEGINS  WHEN  WE  ARE  RAISED  WITH  CHRIST

         A. According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, those who are in Christ have been renewed.
         B. The Bible teaches us how to be raised with Christ so we can be renewed in:
             1. Galatians 3:26-29
             2. Romans 6:3-7
             3. Titus 3:3-7.
         C. This is how the people in Ephesus had been renewed (Acts 19:5).

II.          RENEWAL  CONTINUES  AFTER  WE  ARE  RAISED  WITH  CHRIST

         A. The instruction in Ephesians 4:23 is for Christians.
         B. Notice 2 activities mentioned in connection with renewal.
             1. First, Ephesians 4:22 teaches us to "put off" the old man -- to be more specific, we are to "put away"
the sinful activities listed in Ephesians 4:25-31.
             2. Second, Ephesians 4:24 teaches us to "put on" the new man -- to be more specific, we are to "put on"
the good activities listed in Ephesians 4:32.
             3. Let us turn our attention to . . .

III.         ADDITIONAL  MATTERS  THAT  RELATE  TO  RENEWAL

         A. Renewal is available to those who "wait upon the Lord" (Isaiah 40:31).
         B. We are to ask God for renewal (Psalm 51:10).
         C. The "renewing of our minds" is a key to being transformed (Romans 12:1-2).
         D. Inward renewal deserves our daily attention (2 Corinthians 4:16).

Conclusion:

         1. Have you begun your renewal process by being raised with Christ?
         2. Are you continuing to be renewed?
