Let Us Trust in the Lord for Salvation
(Hebrews 5:8-9)

Introduction:

         1. With so must attention being given to politics, let us remember the principles revealed in
Psalm 118:8-9 that relate to "trusting in the Lord."
             a. "Trusting in the Lord" is far better than having confidence in men, including princes -- the
Lord provides blessings that men cannot provide.
             b. Notice how this contrast is made in Jeremiah 17:5-8.
         2. In our lessons today we are placing special emphasis on "trusting in the Lord."
             a. This morning: "Let us trust in the Lord for salvation."
             b. This evening: "Let us trust in the Lord after He saves us."
         3. Let us begin our study of the Scriptures by considering . . .

Discussion:

I.            FOUR  BASIC  MATTERS  THAT  RELATE  TO  SALVATION

         A. First, we must understand why Jesus came to earth -- to save us.
              1. Please note the reason why the angel instructed Joseph to name Mary's Son Jesus -- "for
He shall save His people from their sins"
(Matthew 1:21).
              2. In Luke 19:10 Jesus said that He came "to seek and to save that which was lost."
         B. Second, we must understand why we need the salvation He provides.
              1. In 1 John 3:4 the Bible identifies sin as the transgression of God's law.
              2. We learn from Romans 3:23 who is guilty of sin.
              3. The effects of sin are revealed in Romans 6:23a.
              4. These verses explain why it was necessary for Jesus to save us.
         C. Third, the Gospel [Good News] is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was
resurrected so we may be saved (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
         D. Fourth, according to Hebrews 5:8-9, the Lord saves those who obey Him.
         E. We must trust in the Lord for salvation -- not in man.

II.           LET  US  SEARCH  THE  SCRIPTURES  TO  LEARN  THE  LORD'S  WILL

         A. Those who trust in the Lord will believe the Gospel (Mark 1:14-15; 16:15-16; Romans 10:13-17).
         B. Those who trust in the Lord will believe that He is the Son of God (John 3:16; 20:30-31).
         C. Those who trust in the Lord will repent (Matthew 9:12-13; Luke 13:3, 5).
         D. Those who trust in the Lord will confess Him (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 8:37).
         E. Those who trust in the Lord will be baptized (Mark 16:16; Acts 22:16).
         F. Those who trust in the Lord will serve Him faithfully in His church (Acts 2:47; Revelation 2:10).

Conclusion:

         1. Have you shown the Lord that you trust Him?
         2. He offers His invitation to everyone (Matthew 11:28-30).
