The Story of Jesus
Jesus' Birth - General Matters

(Lesson 01)

Introduction:

         1. We learn from 2 Peter 3:18 that Christians are to continually grow in the knowledge of Christ.
         2. To help us accomplish this growth we are studying "The Story of Jesus."
         3. In this lesson we are covering several general matters relating to the Lord's birth.

Discussion:

I.           THE  LORD'S  EXISTENCE  IS  ETERNAL;  HOWEVER,  HE  CAME  TO  EARTH
IN  THE  FLESH  (John 1:1-3, 14)

II.          WHY  JESUS  CAME  TO  EARTH  IN  THE  FLESH

         A. (Matthew 5:17-18) He came to fulfill the law and the prophets.
         B. (Matthew 9:13) He came to call sinners to repentance.
         C. (Mark 1:38) He came to preach.
         D. (Mark 10:45) He came to minister to others and to give His life as a ransom for many.
         E. (Luke 19:10) He came to seek and to save the lost.
         F. (John 6:38) He came to do the Father's will.
         G. (John 10:10) He came so we might have life and have it more abundantly.
         H. (Hebrews 2:16-18) He came to be tempted so He could serve as our High Priest.

III.         WHEN  JESUS  CAME  TO  EARTH  IN  THE  FLESH

         A. We do not know the exact time of the Lord's birth.
         B. He was born when the time was right according to God's time schedule (Galatians 4:4-5).

IV.         PROPHECIES  RELATING  TO  THE  LORD'S  BIRTH  HELP  US  TO  BETTER
UNDERSTAND  WHY  AND  WHEN  HE  WAS  BORN

         A. Genesis 3:15
         B. Genesis 12:1-3 (Abraham)
         C. Genesis 26:1-4 (Isaac)
         D. Genesis 28:10-14 (Jacob)
         E. Genesis 49:8-10 (Judah)
         F. Isaiah 7:14; 9:6
         G. Micah 5:2

Conclusion:

         1. We have shown why Jesus came to earth in the flesh.
         2. We have seen that the Lord's coming was prophesied in the Old Testament.
         3. Hopefully, this information will help us as we study the Lord's birth and genealogy.
