The Story of Jesus Jesus' Birth - General Matters (Lesson 01)
Introduction:
1. We learn from 2 Peter 3:18 that Christians are to continually grow in the knowledge of Christ. 2. To help us accomplish this growth we are studying "The Story of Jesus." 3. In this lesson we are covering several general matters relating to the Lord's birth.
Discussion:
I. THE LORD'S EXISTENCE IS ETERNAL; HOWEVER, HE CAME TO EARTH IN THE FLESH (John 1:1-3, 14)
II. WHY JESUS CAME TO EARTH IN THE FLESH
A. (Matthew 5:17-18) He came to fulfill the law and the prophets. B. (Matthew 9:13) He came to call sinners to repentance. C. (Mark 1:38) He came to preach. D. (Mark 10:45) He came to minister to others and to give His life as a ransom for many. E. (Luke 19:10) He came to seek and to save the lost. F. (John 6:38) He came to do the Father's will. G. (John 10:10) He came so we might have life and have it more abundantly. H. (Hebrews 2:16-18) He came to be tempted so He could serve as our High Priest.
III. WHEN JESUS CAME TO EARTH IN THE FLESH
A. We do not know the exact time of the Lord's birth. B. He was born when the time was right according to God's time schedule (Galatians 4:4-5).
IV. PROPHECIES RELATING TO THE LORD'S BIRTH HELP US TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHY AND WHEN HE WAS BORN
