1. Today's lessons are designed to help us grow in grace and in knowledge as we are instructed in 2 Peter 3:18. 2. This morning we showed from the Scriptures how "God's people are to grow in knowledge." 3. This evening we are basing our study on Paul's appeal in 2 Timothy 2:1 -- "God's people are to grow in grace." 4. In our lesson we are considering 5 warnings as well as 5 positive admonitions that relate to grace.
Discussion:
I. LET US CONSIDER 5 WARNINGS THAT INVOLVE GRACE
A. We are warned against thinking that God's grace gives us a license to sin (Romans 6:1-2, 14-15). B. We are warned against receiving God's grace in vain (2 Corinthians 6:1). C. We are warned against frustrating God's grace (Galatians 2:21). D. We are warned against falling from God's grace (Galatians 5:4). E. We are warned against turning God's grace into lasciviousness (Jude 4).
II. LET US CONSIDER 5 POSITIVE ADMONITIONS THAT INVOLVE GRACE
A. We are to allow God's grace to be seen (Acts 11:22-23). B. We are to "continue in the grace of God" (Acts 13:43). C. We are to include grace in our speech (Ephesians 4:29; Colossians 4:6). D. We are to have grace in our hearts as we sing (Colossians 3:16). E. We are to approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:16).
Conclusion:
1. According to Hebrews 13:9, a heart established with grace is a good thing. 2. Let us heed these warnings and practice these admonitions to the best of our ability.
