I. JESUS' WORK CONSISTED PRIMARILY OF TEACHING AND PREACHING
A. Following His baptism (Matthew 3:13-17) and temptation (Matthew 4:1-11), Jesus began His ministry by preaching (Matthew 4:17). B. He taught multitudes of people in many areas (Matthew 4:23-25; 9:35; 11:1).
II. JESUS WAS A VERY EFFECTIVE TEACHER AND PREACHER
A. The responses of the people who heard Jesus indicate that He was effective. 1. Matthew 7:28-29 2. Mark 12:37 3. Luke 5:1 4. John 7:32, 45-46 B. In addition to being a teacher, Jesus was a "doer" (Acts 1:1).
III. IN HIS TEACHING JESUS ADDRESSED MANY SUBJECTS, USING A VARIETY OF METHODS
A. In His "parable of the sower," Jesus illustrated the importance of hearing God's Word properly. 1. Jesus first presented the parable (Luke 8:4-8). 2. Jesus also explained the parable (Luke 8:11-15). 3. Jesus gave a serious warning concerning the way we hear (Luke 8:18). B. In His discussion with Nicodemus, Jesus showed that one must be born again to become a member of God's kingdom (John 3:1-7). C. In His "Sermon on the Mount," Jesus presented some important information about prayer (Matthew 6:5-15). 1. We must not pray like hypocrites (vs.5-6). 2. We must not pray like heathens (vs.7-8). 3. Jesus gave His model prayer (vs.9-13). 4. Jesus emphasized the necessity of forgiveness (vs.14-15). D. (John 14:1-6) As Jesus comforted His disciples' hearts, He spoke to them about heaven as well as His return.
