Introduction:
1. In this verse Moses contrasted "secret things" and "things which are revealed." 2. "Secret things" belong to God -- they do not belong to us. 3. "Things which are revealed" belong to us -- they enable us to do God's will. 4. This morning we pointed out "some things we know about the church." a. Christ is the builder of His church. b. Christ is the head of His church. c. The church is the body of Christ. d. "Church of Christ" is a scriptural designation for the church. e. The Lord's church has a special destiny. 5. This evening we are covering "additional things we know about the church." a. These things are not secret. b. They are clearly revealed in the Bible. Discussion:
I. WE KNOW THAT THE CHURCH IS "THE HOUSE OF GOD"
A. This is revealed in 1 Timothy 3:15. B. According to Matthew 16:18, Jesus is the builder of His church. C. A sober warning is given in Psalm 127:1a. II. AS "THE HOUSE OF GOD," WE KNOW THE CHURCH HAS A NUMBER OF FEATURES
A. We know that the church has a corner stone -- Jesus (Acts 4:10-11). B. We know that the church has a foundation -- the apostles and prophets (Ephesians 2:19-22). C. We know that the church has a door -- Jesus (John 10:9; Revelation 3:20). D. We know that the church has keys (Matthew 16:19; Acts 2:38). E. We know that the church is composed of a variety of members that are all important (Acts 2:47; 1 Peter 2:5; 1 Corinthians 12:14-27). F. We know that the church was purchased with a high price (Acts 20:28). Conclusion:
1. Let us remember the great words of wisdom that Moses wrote in Deuteronomy 29:29. 2. Let us avoid being concerned about "secret things" -- they belong to God. 3. Rather, let us read and study "those things which are revealed." 4. By doing so, we can know God's will on subjects such as "the church."
