The Word Was Made Flesh
(John 1:14)

Introduction:

         1. John began his Gospel by identifying Jesus as a member of the eternal Godhead (vs.1-3).
         2. He continued in vs.14 by showing that Jesus "was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
             a. According to Galatians 4:4-5, this occurred "when the fullness of the time was come."
             b. We learn from Hebrews 2:14-18 why it was necessary for Jesus to come in the flesh.
         3. In his Gospel John wrote about ways in which Jesus suffered while He was in the flesh that qualify
Him to be a merciful High Priest.
         4. In our lesson we are examining 10 of the Lord's temptations in John.

Discussion:

I.           IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "WEARINESS"  (John 4:3-6)

II.          IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "UNBELIEF  FROM  HIS  FAMILY"  (John 7:3-5)

III.         IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "SARCASM"  (John 8:48)

IV.         IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "REJECTION"  BY:

         A. His disciples  (John 6:66)
         B. His countrymen (John 8:59).

V.          IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "GRIEF"  (John 11:32-36)

VI.         IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "BETRAYAL"  (John 18:2-5)

VII.        IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "UNJUST  TREATMENT"  (John 19:1-3)

VIII.       IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "CONCERN  FOR  HIS  MOTHER"  (John 19:25-27)

IX.         IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "PHYSICAL  NEEDS"  (John 19:28-29)

X.          IN  THE  FLESH  JESUS  SUFFERED  "DEATH"  (John 19:30)

Conclusion:

         1. The Gospels reveal many more ways in which Jesus suffered while He was on earth in the flesh.
         2. The Lord faced all of His trials "without sin" (Hebrews 4:15).
         3. He is certainly qualified to serve as our merciful High Priest.
         4. Let us comply with the admonition given in Hebrews 4:16.
