Hebrews 13:4
(Lesson 21)

Introduction:
 

         1. Hebrews was written to encourage the Lord’s people to remain faithful to Him.
         2. Ch.13 contains a number of instructions that promote faithfulness.
             a. (vs.1-3) We must fulfill our responsibilities toward others.
             b. (vs.4) Faithfulness in marriage relations must be maintained.

Discussion:

I.           MARRIAGE  IS  HONORABLE  IN  ALL

         A. This literally means: "marriage is to be held in honor in all."
         B. Marriage is to be held in honor because God is the author of it (Genesis 2:18-24).
         C. In order for a marriage to be held in honor, both spouses must fulfill their God-given responsibilities.
             1. Wives (Ephesians 5:22-24; Colossians 3:18; 1 Peter 3:1-6)
             2. Husbands (Ephesians 5:25-28; Colossians 3:19; 1 Peter 3:7)

II.          THE  MARRIAGE  BED  IS  TO  BE  UNDEFILED

         A. God made us in such a way that we have physical desires and needs.
         B. God has given us a way in which we can fulfill our desires and needs - in marriage.
             1. Genesis 2:24
             2. Proverbs 5:18-19
             3. 1 Corinthians 7:1-5
         C. God approves of physical intimacy within the marriage relationship; however, . . .

III.         GOD  WILL  JUDGE  THOSE  WHO  ARE  GUILTY  OF  IMMORAL  BEHAVIOR

         A. God does not approve of certain types of sexual activity.
         B. The Bible condemns adultery and fornication.
             1. 1 Corinthians 5
             2. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 18-20
             3. Galatians 5:19-21
             4. Colossians 3:5-6
             5. Revelation 21:8
             6. Revelation 22:14-15

Conclusion:

         We learn from this passage that faithfulness to Christ includes faithfulness in marriage.
