Satan's Devices against Job
(Job 1-2)

Introduction:

        1.    In 1 Peter 5:8-9 the Bible teaches us that Satan is our adversary and we are to resist him steadfastly
               in the faith.
        2.    This morning we examined the occasions when Satan interacted with Eve, David, Paul, and Jesus.
        3.    Our purpose was to help us become more familiar with Satan's devices.
        4.    This evening we are concentrating on "Satan's devices against Job."
        5.    Our lesson is based on the information revealed in Job 1-2.
        6.    Let us become more familiar with the devices that the devil uses.

Discussion:

I.                   (Job 1:1-5) JOB  IS  INTRODUCED

        A.   (vs.1a) He lived "in the land of Uz."
        B.   (vs.1b) He was a devout man.
        C.   (vs.2-3) He had been abundantly blessed.
        D.   (vs.4-5) He offered sacrifices on behalf of his children.

II.                (Job 1:6-22) SATAN  USED  HIS  FIRST  DEVICE  AGAINST  JOB

        A.   (vs.6-7) Satan attended a meeting in which the angels presented themselves before God.
        B.   (vs.8) God was aware of Job's devotion.
        C.   (vs.9-11) Satan questioned Job's reasons for serving God.
        D.   (vs.12) God allowed Satan to test Job; however, God limited Satan.
        E.   (vs.13-22) Job suffered tremendous losses.
               1.    (vs.13-15) The Sabeans took Job's oxen and donkeys and killed his servants.
               2.    (vs.16) Job's sheep and the servants who tended them were destroyed.
               3.    (vs.17) The Chaldeans took Job's camels and killed his servants.
               4.    (vs.18-19) Job's children were killed.
               5.    (vs.20-22) Job grieved because of his losses, but he did not sin against God.

III.             (Job 2:1-10) SATAN  USED  HIS  SECOND  DEVICE  AGAINST  JOB

        A.   (vs.1-2) Satan attended another meeting in which the angels presented themselves before God.
        B.   (vs.3) God was aware of Job's devotion and faithfulness.
        C.   (vs.4-5) Satan doubted Job's devotion to God.
        D.   (vs.6) God allowed Satan to test Job again; however, God limited Satan.
        E.   (vs.7-10) Job suffered great physical pain.
               1.    (vs.7) Job's body was covered with "sore boils."
               2.    (vs.8) Job's pain and grief were excruciating (7:4-5; 16:16; 30:17, 27).
               3.    (vs.9-10) Even though Job's wife encouraged him to curse God, he refused to do so.

Conclusion:

        1.    Satan's interaction with Job shows how Satan has been trying to devour God's people for a long time.
        2.    Let us appreciate the messages presented in:
               a.    1 Corinthians 10:13
               b.    1 John 4:4.
               c.     Romans 8:38-39.
