God's Statutes and Judgments Provide Special Blessings
(Deuteronomy 5:1)

Introduction:

         1. Before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, Moses called upon them to fulfill their responsibilities
             concerning God's statutes and judgments.
         2. Moses instructed the Israelites to hear, learn, keep, and do the statutes and judgments that he was
             delivering.
         3. This morning we covered a number of passages that relate to "learning" God's statutes and judgments.
         4. In Psalm 19:7-11, David pointed out several blessings that are associated with God's Word, including
             His statutes and judgments.
         5. This evening we are examining 10 additional special blessings that are revealed in both the Old and
             New Testaments.

Discussion:

I.           LET  US  CONSIDER  3  SPECIAL  BLESSINGS  REVEALED  IN  THE  OLD  TESTAMENT

         A. "Cleansing" (Psalm 119:9)
         B. "Power to overcome temptation" (Psalm 119:11)
         C. "Direction" (Psalm 119:105)

II.          LET  US  CONSIDER  7  SPECIAL  BLESSINGS  REVEALED  IN  THE  NEW  TESTAMENT

         A. "Increasing your knowledge of Christ" (John 5:39; 2 Peter 3:18)
         B. "Knowing the truth that will make you free" (John 8:31-32)
         C. "Building you up" (Acts 20:32)
         D. "Increasing your faith" (Romans 10:17)
         E. "Equipping you completely to do God's will" (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
         F. "Saving your soul" (James 1:21)
         G. "Spiritual growth" (1 Peter 2:2).
         H. For our final point, . . .

III.         LET  US  CONSIDER  HOW  GOD'S  STATUTES  AND  JUDGMENTS  ARE  DESCRIBED  IN  THE
             NEW  TESTAMENT

         A. (John 6:63) The Lord's Words "are spirit, and they are life."
         B. (Ephesians 6:17) God's Word is "the sword of the Spirit."
         C. (Hebrews 4:12) God's Word is alive and active.

Conclusion:

         1. (Deuteronomy 5:1) Moses called upon the Israelites to fulfill their responsibilities concerning God's
statutes and judgments, including "hearing" them, "learning" them, "keeping" them, and "doing" them.
         2. We are no longer under the Old Testament, but we must fulfill the same responsibilities concerning the
statutes and judgments in the New Testament.
         3. Those who do so will be blessed (Revelation 22:14).
