Is the Recent Supreme Court Ruling Scriptural? (1 Peter 2:13-17)
Introduction:
1.According to 1 Peter 2:13-17, Christians must obey civil laws. 2.However, if a civil law violates God's law, we must obey God (Acts 5:29). 3.We have studied same sex marriage in the past, but it is necessary for us to address this issue again to determine if the recent Supreme Court ruling is scriptural.
Discussion:
I.SAMESEXMARRIAGEWASUNSCRIPTURALATCREATION
A.God made Adam and Eve on the 6th day (Genesis 1:26-28). B.According to Genesis 2:24, God ordained marriage for a man and a woman. C.God's plan for marriage has not changed (Ephesians 5:31).
A.(Genesis 12:1-3) God chose Abraham to be the father of His chosen people. B.The Gentiles had become so wicked that God gave them up (Romans 1:18-32). C.(Romans 1:26-27) Homosexuality was one of the sins practiced by the Gentiles. D.The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah should teach us a lesson. 1.The people of Sodom were wicked when Lot moved there (Genesis 13:13). 2.The Lord inspected Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:20-21). 3.Two angels discovered how wicked Sodom was (Genesis 19:1-14). 4.The Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24-25; Jude 7).
A.The Law of Moses prohibited homosexuality (Deuteronomy 23:17). B.In addition to prohibiting homosexuality, the Law of Moses stated that homosexuals were to be put to death (Leviticus 20:13).
A.We learn from Galatians 5:19-21 that "fornication" [illicit sexual activity, including homosexuality] is a work of the flesh that will prevent a person from inheriting God's kingdom. B.The Bible clearly states in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that homosexuals are among those who will not inherit God's kingdom. C.Thankfully, forgiveness is available (1 Corinthians 6:11).
Conclusion:
1.Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has made another ruling that contradicts the will of God that He has revealed in His Word. 2.Let us remember the principle given in Proverbs 14:34 -- "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."
