A. According to what He said in this verse, Jesus showed how great His love is by giving His life on our behalf. B. It was necessary for Jesus to lay down His life because of sin. 1. Just as the Lord's love for us led Him to give His life on our behalf, our love for Him will lead us to do His will (John 14:15, 23). C. To receive forgiveness we must: 1. be taught the Gospel (Mark 16:15; Romans 10:17) 2. believe that Jesus is God's Son (John 3:16; 8:24) 3. repent of our sins (Luke 13:3, 5) 4. confess that Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:9-10) 5. be baptized (Mark 16:16; Galatians 3:27).
