1. Faith plays an important role in the lives of God's people. a. According to Hebrews 10:38, "the just shall live by faith." b. We learn from Hebrews 11:2 that faith will enable a person to be in good standing with God. 2. In Hebrews 11 we read about the ways in which a number of men and women in the Old Testament demonstrated their faith. 3. Previously, we have examined the faith of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. 4. In vs.23-28 we read about the faith of Moses. a. As a child, Moses was greatly influenced by the faith of his parents. b. As an adult, Moses demonstrated his own faith in many ways.
I. (vs.23) AS A CHILD, MOSES WAS GREATLY INFLUENCED BY THE FAITH OF HIS PARENTS
A. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, commanded that male Hebrew babies were to be cast into the river (Exodus 1:8-10, 22). B. Moses' life was spared because his parents were not afraid of this command (Exodus 2:1-10).
II. (vs.24-28) AS AN ADULT, MOSES DEMONSTRATED HIS OWN FAITH IN MANY WAYS
A. (vs.24-27) Moses chose to be associated with God's people rather than the Egyptians. 1. Moses made some difficult decisions. 2. One of his decisions resulted in his leaving Egypt (Exodus 2:11-15). 3. Moses eventually returned to Egypt (Exodus 2:23-25; 3:7-10; 4:18-20). 4. As he made his decisions, Moses demonstrated his faith in that he: a. "had respect unto the recompense of the reward" (vs.26) b. "endured, as seeing Him who is invisible" (vs.27). B. (vs.28) Moses further demonstrated his faith when he kept the Passover (Exodus 12:1-30).
1. Moses was blessed to live a long and rich life (Deuteronomy 34:7). 2. As a result of living by faith, Moses had a tremendous influence upon the children of Israel (Deuteronomy 34:8-12).
