Instructions That Relate to Good Works (Matthew 5:14-16)
Introduction:
1. This morning we showed from the Scriptures how "Jesus worked and taught His followers to work." 2. Doing good works is so important that Jesus dealt with it in His Sermon on the Mount. a. Doing good works is one way of letting our lights shine. b. As our lights shine we influence others for good. 3. This evening we are searching the Scriptures for "instructions that relate to good works." Discussion: I. AS WE DO GOOD WORKS, LET US REMAIN HUMBLE
A. Jesus made this clear in Luke 17:10. B. We must avoid the mistake that Jesus pointed out in Matthew 23:5a. II. AS WE DO GOOD WORKS, LET US DO SO FOR THE RIGHT REWARD (John 6:27) III. AS WE DO GOOD WORKS, LET US WORK TOGETHER WITH GOD
A. This instruction is given in 1 Corinthians 3:9a. B. Let us remember that God gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). IV. AS WE DO GOOD WORKS, LET US REMEMBER THAT CHRISTIAN LABOR IS NOT IN VAIN (1 Corinthians 15:58) V. AS WE DO GOOD WORKS, LET US OBSERVE HOW CHRISTIAN LABOR IS A LABOR OF LOVE (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3; 1 Corinthians 13:3) VI. AS WE DO GOOD WORKS, GOD REMEMBERS THEM (Hebrews 6:10) Conclusion:
1. Each person will be judged according to his own work (1 Corinthians 3:8). 2. According to Revelation 14:13, rest is in store for Christian labor.
