People of Faith
David
(Lesson 15)

Introduction:

         1. A number of men and women from the Old Testament are mentioned in Hebrews 11 to show how
faith will enable a person to be in good standing with God.
         2. David is among Israel's leaders mentioned in vs.32.
         3. We learn from 1 Samuel 16 that:
             a. David was anointed to replace Saul as king of Israel (vs.1-13)
                 1) According to 1 Samuel 15:1-9, Saul had disobeyed God's instructions to destroy the Amalekites.
                 2) Consequently, God rejected Saul as king (1 Samuel 15:26).
             b. David served Saul by playing the harp for him (vs.14-23).
         4. David's writings indicate that he had great faith in God (Psalm 18:1-6, 46-50).
         5. Many of David's actions also show that he possessed great faith, especially his fight with Goliath
             (1 Samuel 17).
