Jesus' Resurrection Was According to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
Introduction:
1. According to John 8:31-32, continuing in the Lord's word will enable us to know the truth. 2. This morning we covered passages from the Lord's word that teach the truth about Jesus' resurrection. 3. This evening we are pointing out that "Jesus' resurrection was according to the Scriptures." 4. We are examining 2 passages from the Old Testament in which Jesus' resurrection was prophesied. Discussion: I. FIRST, LET US EXAMINE ISAIAH 53:4-12
A. Isaiah wrote these words about 700 BC. B. We understand from Acts 8:26-35 that Isaiah wrote about Jesus. C. Isaiah showed how: 1. Jesus died for our sins (Isaiah 53:8) 2. Jesus was buried (Isaiah 53:9a) 3. Jesus was raised (Isaiah 53:10). D. We understand from Isaiah's writings that "Jesus' resurrection was according to the Scriptures." II. SECOND, LET US EXAMINE PSALM 16:8-11
A. David wrote these words about 1,000 BC. B. Apparently, some thought that David was writing about himself because he used personal pronouns. C. David actually wrote about God's "Holy One." D. Two inspired apostles showed how David prophesied about Jesus' resurrection. 1. Peter explained David's prophecy in Acts 2:22-32. 2. Paul also explained David's prophecy in Acts 13:14-16, 26-37. Conclusion:
1. The Lord's word reveals the actual facts of Jesus' resurrection. 2. However, we must remember that Jesus was raised "according to the Scriptures." 3. The Old Testament prophecies we examined show how the Lord's resurrection was part of God's predetermined plan for our salvation. 4. Let us rejoice that Jesus was raised from the grave!
