The Promises of God - Lesson 26
That The Judgment Will Occur

Introduction:

        1.
In our study of God's promises we have shown many times that they are "exceeding great and precious"

(2 Peter 1:4).
        2.    By studying God's promises we are able to learn information that God wants us to know on many
               important subjects.
        3.    This lesson is a study of "God's promise that the judgment will occur."
        4.    The apostle Paul mentioned this promise in his speech that he delivered at Mars' Hill, located in Athens
               (Acts 17:30-31).
        5.    Let us begin by showing that . . .

Discussion:

I.                   GOD'S  WORD  REPEATEDLY  TEACHES  THAT  THE  JUDGMENT  WILL  OCCUR

        A.   During His ministry Jesus stated on various occasions that the judgment will occur.
               1.    Matthew 10:11-15
               2.    Matthew 11:20-24
               3.    Matthew 12:36
        B.   Many other passages teach that the judgment will occur, including:
               1.    Ecclesiastes 11:9; 12:13-14
               2.    Hebrews 9:27.

II.                GOD'S  WORD  ALSO  TEACHES  WHEN  THE  JUDGMENT  WILL OCCUR

        A.   The judgment will occur when Jesus returns.
               1.    Matthew 25:31-33
               2.    2 Timothy 4:1
        B.   It is essential to prepare and to stay prepared for the judgment because no one knows when Jesus
               will return.
               1.    Matthew 24:36, 42, 44; 25:13
               2.    1 Thessalonians 5:2
               3.    2 Peter 3:10
        C.   Although no one knows the time of the judgment because no one knows when Jesus will return, there
will be a "day" of judgment.
               1.    Acts 17:30-31
               2.    Romans 2:16
               3.    2 Peter 3:7

III.             GOD'S  WORD  SUPPLIES  ADDITIONAL  DETAILS  CONCERNING  THE  JUDGMENT

        A.   Jesus will be the judge (John 5:22, 26-27, 30).
        B.   Everyone will be judged (Romans 14:10-12; 2 Corinthians 5:10), including "the quick and the dead"

(Acts 10:42; 1 Peter 4:5; John 5:28-29).
        C.   Each person will be judged on the basis of:
               1.    his judgment of other people (Matthew 7:1-2)
               2.    his words (Matthew 12:35-37)
               3.    his works (Matthew 16:27)
               4.    his assistance of the needy (Matthew 25:31-46)
               5.    what is written in the books (Revelation 20:12; John 12:48).
