The Scriptures Testify about the Lord's Birth
(John 5:39)

Introduction:

         1. In this verse Jesus gave the key to learning about Him -- "search the Scriptures."
         2. He explained why we must do so -- the Scriptures "testify" of Him.
         3. This morning we examined a number of passages that relate to the Lord's coming to earth in the flesh.
         4. This evening we are studying additional Scriptures that testify about the Lord's birth.

Discussion:

I.           THE  SCRIPTURES  TESTIFY  ABOUT  THE  LORD'S  BIRTH  THROUGH  NUMEROUS
             PROPHECIES;  INCLUDING:

         A. Genesis 3:15 [He would be the seed of the woman.]
         B. Genesis 12:1-3 [He would be a descendant of Abraham.]
         C. Genesis 26:1-4 [He would be a descendant of Isaac.]
         D. Genesis 28:10-14 [He would be a descendant of Jacob.]
         E. Genesis 49:8-10 [He would be a descendant of Judah.]
         F. Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7 [He would be born of a virgin; He would be divine.]
         G. Micah 5:2 [He would be born in Bethlehem.]

II.          THE  SCRIPTURES  TESTIFY  ABOUT  THE  LORD'S  BIRTH  THROUGH  HIS  GENEALOGIES

         A. Luke 3:23-38 [Mary's genealogy is traced through Abraham to Adam, identifying Jesus as the seed
of the woman -- Genesis 3:15.]
         B. Matthew 1:1-17 [Joseph's genealogy is traced through David to Abraham, including the kings of Judah,
identifying Him as King of kings.]

III.         THE  SCRIPTURES  TESTIFY  ABOUT  THE  LORD'S  BIRTH  BY  SUPPLYING  ADDITIONAL
             DETAILS

         A. Luke 2:21 [Jesus was circumcised and named -- Leviticus 12:1-3.]
         B. Luke 2:22-24 [Jesus was taken to the temple -- Leviticus 12:4-8.]
         C. Luke 2:25-39 [Simeon and Anna saw Jesus in the temple.]
         D. Matthew 2:1-12 [The wise men visited Jesus.]
         E. Matthew 2:13-23 [Jesus was taken to Egypt to escape Herod.]

Conclusion:

         1. In today's lessons we have made a fairly thorough study of the Lord's coming to earth in the flesh.
         2. This morning we mentioned Galatians 4:4 that reveals the time of the Lord's birth.
         3. This evening we are mentioning Galatians 4:5 that reveals why God sent His Son -- to redeem us.
         4. Have you come to the Lord to be redeemed?
